The True Church of Jesus Christ

A Personal Testimony And Witness
by Timothy G. Davis

I have found the True Church of Jesus Christ!
It has no building or budget. It is made up of born-again believers in Jesus
Christ. It's membership has infiltrated many of the religious institutions
we see on the streets of our cities every day. It's members have one thing
in common - they have chosen to surrender their lives to Jesus. And by the
way, they all have another thing in common - they are all sinners in need of
a savior.
Churches come and churches go. Churches grow and split and feud until
sometimes it appears God's attempt to build His church is constantly
frustrated. But the Lord's work is never frustrated. What is frustrated is
man's every attempt to create an institution to package and market the
Church of Jesus Christ. It cannot be done.
We who are members of the True Church of Jesus Christ do various things to
signal other members of The Church throughout our daily tasks. We may carry
Bibles and/or Book of Mormons, or whistle a hymn on an elevator, or mention
the name of Jesus to another, or use an obscure Book of Mormon reference in
conversation, and by these signals we meet other members of The Church. We
also do these things as a means of encouragement for each other.
Sometimes it is discouraging that many of our brothers and sisters in The
Church do not believe that the Book of Mormon is a message from our common
God as revealed in Jesus Christ. That's OK. Within the pages of the Book of
Mormon I cannot find a charge to promote Book of Mormon belief to all the
world. Rather, the Lord has told us that the Book of Mormon will be used in
"the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal
God."
Since I believe in the omnipotence of God and in the truth of His word, I do
believe that the Book of Mormon will be instrumental in the conversion of
the Jews to Christianity - some day, some way. In the mean time, I am not
beating my Christian brothers and sisters over the head with it. Praise the
Lord that they had the inclination to turn to their creator WITHOUT the
testimony of the Book of Mormon.
I do however believe that I am not to be timid in my testimony that the Book
of Mormon IS what it claims to be. And so I am careful to keep it at the
forefront of my Christian life, in case someone I meet has been prepared by
the Holy Spirit to receive the testimony of the Book of Mormon and I am the
one the Lord plans to use as an instrument for this revelation.
I have met many members of the Church of Jesus Christ on electronic mailing
lists, at the grocery store, at work and yes even at "church." And for this
world-wide church and my belonging to it, I praise the Lord! Although we
worship in different buildings, with different institutional trappings - WE
ARE THE CHURCH!
